Pottery Courses

We run regular wheel throwing and hand building pottery throughout the year, 9-week courses starting in January, April & September, as well as some shorter courses and workshops.

Wheel Course

Discover how to use clay to create bowls, plates and all kinds of decorative items. Learn how to prepare and centre clay and make a cylinder, which is a great start for many clay creations. For those who have already attended one of our beginner classes, this course is a great opportunity to expand your knowledge on how working with larger amount of clay, add handles or apply various glazing techniques for decorating your work.

This course is suitable for complete beginners, or people who have attended another beginner’s course and want to expand their wheel practice.
Course overview – 7 weeks of throwing and turning with demonstrations, 2 weeks focusing on decorating and glazing.

General Pottery Course – Hand Building & Wheel

This course provides an introductory level of clay work and it is perfect for anyone who wants to experiment and learn to work with clay. You will learn various hand building techniques (coil, slab, and press mould) as well as having an introduction to throwing on the wheel. You will also learn how to add handles and apply various techniques for decorating your work, and how to glaze your pieces. This course is a great starter if you have never worked with clay before, and suitable for people who are familiar with this medium and want to refresh their knowledge and deep their technical skills.

Course overview – 4 weeks using hand building techniques and 3 weeks on the wheel with demonstrations, 2 weeks will focus on decorating and glazing.

Wheel Course – Level 2+

This course is for people who wish to move up to making larger pieces of pottery and learning how to take multiple thrown components and assemble them into a pot. The course is designed for those who are seeking to improve their existing throwing skills and can already centre and open-up a ball of clay. Roberto, Studio owner and ceramics Master, will help you learn how to work with the clay, develop your confidence and creativity while building the necessary throwing skills.
Explore the possibilities of working with larger pieces of clay and making projects such as teapots and lidded pots. You will be challenged to stretch your creativity and refine your throwing ability in a supportive and friendly environment.

Course overview - 7 weeks of throwing, turning and joining with demonstrations as required, 2 weeks focusing on decorating and glazing.
