It would also be suitable as a refresher course, or for someone who can already throw but would like to learn some hand building skills. Clay is an amazingly versatile medium and you will learn various different methods of construction including pinching, coiling and slab work with and without moulds. We will cover some decorating techniques using slips, underglaze colours and glazes. You will also learn how the studio here works. We will be covering a lot of material in just two days so the course will focus on learning effective and safe techniques and procedures more than necessarily producing finished pieces to take home. The intention is to cover the groundwork so that you have plenty of options to explore and experiment with creatively. By the end of the two days you may feel confident enough to carry on working independently, in which case you may like to try our ‘Open Studio’ sessions here at the Pottery to practice what you have learnt. There will be a 30 minute lunch break and tea and coffee will be available throughout the day. Please bring an apron or wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. There will be the option to have work glaze fired to collect at a later date. There will be a small charge for this. The course will be taught by Kate Reynolds who has assisted Roberto in the studio for the last few years and is part of our Open Studio Team. Kate is a hand builder who enjoys the opportunity for creativity and happenstance that clay offers. Terms and ConditionsBy placing a booking we will assume that you have read, understood and accepted these Terms and Conditions.
